Live Trees will be Accepted at Select Fire Stations Throughout the County from December 26, 2024 Through January 22, 2025; Annual Treecycling Event will Take Place January 25, 2025
Lawrenceville, Ga. – December 19, 2024 – Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful is exceedingly proud of its role each December and January. Through its annual Bring One for the Chipper event, the eco-focused nonprofit extends the magic of Christmas by transforming live trees into mulch that will grace public spaces and parks over the coming months. With the help of its partners at Jackson EMC, Walton EMC, Republic Services, and the Gwinnett County Departments of Transportation, Parks & Recreation, and Fire, GC&B will collect live trees between December 26, 2024, and January 22, 2025, at select fire stations throughout the county. The trees will then be transported to Bethesda Park at 225 Bethesda Church Road in Lawrenceville for Bring One for the Chipper 2025 on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
“We’ve had an amazing year,” said Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful Executive Director Schelly Marlatt. “Many of our events have witnessed record-breaking participation. We certainly hope that’s the case for Bring One for the Chipper. At our last Chipper event, we processed 800 trees. I’d love to see us surpass 1,000 this year. The more trees dropped off at local fire stations minimize the number taking up space in our landfills. While it’s true that trees decompose naturally, in a landfill, they’re often buried, and that lack of oxygen combined with bacteria in the soil converts the carbon dioxide released during decomposition into methane gas, which is far more harmful to the environment. When chipped to mulch and placed on pathways and in landscaping in our local parks, that carbon dioxide is returned to the soil – minimizing our carbon footprint collectively as a community. What’s more magical than that?”
To be accepted for treecycling, live Christmas trees must be free of lights, tinsel, decorations, and tree stands. Artificial trees will not be accepted at Bring One for the Chipper 2025 drop-off sites, which include:
