There’s a saying uttered by many Northern transplants who find their way to the South… “I may not have been born in the South, but I got here as soon as I could!” While Carmita is a Union City, Jersey girl through and through, she’s been proud to call Gwinnett County home since 2014 – after a 20-year stopover in The Caribbean. She’s been happily married to Jose since 2000, they have three children, and now call Lawrenceville “home.” Carmita has played several integral roles in Gwinnett County Government since moving to the Peach State, including a six-year stint in the Planning & Development Department. In her new role with GC&B, she’ll support our programs, events and more – furthering our mission of Connecting People & Places for A Sustainable Gwinnett. You’ll see her smiling face behind our front desk as she welcomes everyone from visitors to volunteers at our office!
Carmita believes an educated community is a strong community. Her passion for the environment stems from having developed an awareness of threats to the biosphere early on in life. She credits her time in the Caribbean for giving her an entirely new respect for the environment. She feels it’s the responsibility of humankind to take care of Mother Earth if we want Her to keep taking care of us.
