While Garret was born in the gator country of South Florida, he has spent most of his life just outside of Athens, rooting for the Bulldogs. He grew up in the city of Jefferson, Georgia which he still calls home today. He attended the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in political science. After that, he completed a year of service through AmeriCorps Project Conserve in Asheville, North Carolina. In this role, he developed his environmental outreach skills as well as his volunteer leadership abilities. Once the service year was completed, Garret was hired full-time by Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation in 2019. He worked in the Volunteer Resources division for three years before transferring to Gwinnett Water Resources in 2022. At Water Resources, he served as an Outreach Specialist, where he continued to grow in the environmental outreach field. During Garret’s tenure at Water Resources, he received Adopt-a-Stream’s 2023 “New Trainer of the Year” award. Now, in his position with Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, he looks forward to continuing the growth of Gwinnett’s Adopt-a-Stream program as well as all other GC&B volunteer events.
