Four Ways GC&B Stays Vibrantly Connected to Gwinnett Parks

July is National Park and Recreation Month – a time to celebrate the parks in our community and the professionals who maintain them. Congress first dedicated the month of July for this special recognition in 1984, and a year later, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) established it as an annual celebration. It’s a yearly reminder that parks not only serve as places to play, learn, and pursue well-being, but they also provide a space to access nature and connect as a community.

At Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful, we’re proud of the connections we share with Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation – and not just because of our standing as fellow departments under the Gwinnett County Government umbrella. Our team remains closely tied to their team – not just during National Park and Recreation Month, but throughout the year in the following ways.

  1. Our Glass Recycling Program: In addition to OneStop Norcross, the Snellville Recycling Center, and Lawrenceville Public Works, you will find bright purple glass recycling bins at the following local parks…

  1. Our Adopt-A-Stream Program: Designed to train and certify community members to become stewards of our local streams and waterways through chemical, bacterial, and macroinvertebrate monitoring, many of our monthly Adopt-A-Stream workshops are hosted at local Gwinnett County Parks.
  2. Cleanup Events: Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful is proud to host Great Gwinnett Wetlands at local parks each year. In the past, we’ve hosted these annual stewardship events at Club Drive Park, Preston C. Williams Gateway Park, and Bethesda Park. We also host a quarterly cleanup event at Preston C. Williams Gateway Park, and will occasionally incorporate beautification efforts there, such as tree plantings.
  3. Bring One for the Chipper: Last but not least, at the end of the holiday season, we collect live Christmas trees from community members throughout the county for “treecycling.” In January, we move all the collected trees to Bethesda Park for “Bring One for the Chipper,” where they are chipped into mulch, which is donated to Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation to line its walking trails and landscaping.

In 2026, Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking the county’s 1986 decision to create not just green spaces but places where people could connect, play, and grow together. While we are beyond proud to partner with them in all the ways listed above, we are equally proud of the measures they take to support sustainability throughout the county.   • Pet waste bags and disposal containers are positioned throughout the parks as a reminder to pet parents that picking up after their furry friends isn’t just a community courtesy — it’s a must for protecting our environment. Pet waste can wash into storm drains and waterways, polluting the places we all love. So, grab those waste bags, scoop the poop, and let’s keep our beautiful parks and trails clean!
  • They partner with Live Healthy Gwinnett to host ten park-based community gardens throughout the county where community members can grow fresh produce in a 4’x8’ plot that they can rent for just $35/year! The parks where you can find those community gardens include:
    • Bethesda Park Community Garden in Lawrenceville 
    •  Dacula Park Community Garden in Dacula
    •  E. E. Robinson Park Community Garden in Sugar Hill
    •  Graves Park Community Garden in Norcross
    •  J. B. Williams Park Community Garden in Lilburn
    •  Lawrenceville Community Garden at Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville 
    •  Lenora Park Community Garden in Snellville
    •  Peachtree Ridge Park Community Garden in Suwanee
    •  Vines Park Community Garden in Loganville
    •  West Gwinnett Park Community Garden in Berkeley Lake
